The UniDocs system contains various modules that further expand the functionality of the basic system and thus streamline work processes within the company and as a result provide properly stored and sorted documentation.
It provides full security of files and data, exceptional scalability due to the possibility of setting up redundant application servers with automatic load balance, as well as great flexibility in how to install the server part of the system.
It consists of a database that can be placed on an Oracle or MS SQL Server data management system (DBMS) and an application server that provides document file manipulation, user directory management and unique access to all UniDocs Server functions. It provides full security of files and data, exceptional scalability due to the possibility of setting up redundant application servers with automatic load balance, as well as great flexibility in how to install the server part of the system.
The UniDocs server part consists of three basic server modules that can be installed on separate server computers, or installed in combination on the same server computer, depending on the number of users, the amount of documents, and other parameters that affect system performance. These are:
- UniDocs DB Server - represents a metamodel with program procedures implemented in the Oracle or MS SQL Server DBMS environment.
- UniDocs App Server - is an application server responsible for performing all operations with document files. This module provides automatic naming and placement of document files on storage, i.e. disks for storing files, as well as creating a copy of the document on the user's directories, under the user's requests for viewing or changing the document. It can be installed on a separate computer, or combined with other server modules. In the case of a large number of users and transactions with document files, UniDocs App Server can be installed on a cluster, that is, a larger number of computers to which users will be automatically directed by the "load balancing" module, which is an integral part of this module.

The use of this module does not require programming or special IT knowledge, and refers to entering and maintaining implementation parameters through standard Windows dialogs that determine the appearance and behavior of the specific system (definition of document types and properties, users and user groups, permissions and restrictions on access to documents, procedures stream, bulletin boards...).
UniDocs Metadesigner is a module that serves to implement the system, adapting it to the needs of a specific business environment, i.e. a company, institution, organization, or its organizational part.
The user interface of this module is very intuitive and provides entry of all parameters that define the behavior of the system.
It is this module that enables parameterization of the system, which ensures that UniDocs, as a general software system for managing documents and business processes, can be adapted to a specific company or organizational unit by simply entering the parameters that describe the business system. The introduction and automation of the process can be carried out in phases, and each already implemented part of the system can be further changed and improved during its exploitation without the need to stop the operation of the system.
UniDocs Metadesigner enables the definition of all parameters of content and behavior of the system, which includes the following most important groups:
- Classes of basic documents, with and without attachments
- Classes of complex documents - folders
- Associating a set of attributes with defined document classes
- Classification of all types of documents
- Defining all users and groups in the system
- Defining rights for users and groups to perform operations on certain classes of documents
- Defining bulletin boards
- Defining automatic workflow procedures
- Defining all system resources (disks, scanners, printers, etc.)
- Integration of defined types of documents with other objects from the company's information system by defining 1-m and m-m relations between documents and other objects (special types of attributes)
- Defining the right to administer groups of users and other parameters.
Metadesigner is easy to use and enables business process analysts, quality system development experts and other managers to implement a documentation system by describing documents and business processes, without having to have any programming or database knowledge.
The main module of the system, which is located at every computer workplace and represents a universal user environment for working with documents of all types, contents and origins.
It enables the formation, processing, sending and archiving of documents, search of the archive, work with revisions, publication of documents and viewing of bulletin boards. It provides tools for grouping documents into subjects and projects, editing content and other operations with the same. The simplicity and intuitiveness of this module guarantees easy acceptance, simple and short user training, with complete standardization of the computer environment.
UniDocs Client is the main user (client) module of the system. It should be found at each of the workplaces that participate in some of the automated business processes, that is, process (form, change, review or verify) some of the documents related to these processes.
The UniDocs Client module enables users to perform all necessary operations with documents through a unique user interface. It provides tools for grouping documents into subjects and projects, editing content and other operations with the same. The simplicity and intuitiveness of this module guarantees its easy acceptance by users, as well as the fact that business is automated, facilitated and accelerated in this way.

UniDocs Client, in addition to the mentioned basic operations, provides users with additional functionalities, such as:
- Electronic signing of document files (requires PKI infrastructure)
- Downloading documents from the mail client MS Outlook
- Sending a document by e-mail via MS Outlook
- Automatic document import from a network scanner
All the mentioned functions are controlled by UniDocs' global permission system so that each of the users on documents of a certain class can perform only those operations for which he has been given the appropriate permission. In the Unidocs Client 7 version, the Manager module is associated with this module, which enables additional possibilities such as:
- Supervision of all or a group of users in the system
- Document flow redirection
- Searching documents in all statuses
- Creation of statistical reports on the effectiveness and duration of individual actions on documents
UniDocs Client can be used in Desktop or WEB version. The desktop version is a standard Windows application, while the WEB version works in a web browser environment (Internet Explorer) as a thin client.
UniDocs SysAdmin is a module for administering the entire UniDocs system, where its basic functionalities are related to system backup and document deletion.
Through a simple interface, the user can set parameters for system backup such as: the date and time of the start of this operation, whether it is a backup of the entire system or an incremental backup, whether this operation is performed only once or according to a defined dynamic (every day, every week,...). Every time one of the defined operations is automatically started, the administrator receives an email notification about it (when the backup started, when it ended, status,...). Through this application, it is also possible to perform mass or individual deletion of documents.
UniDocs enables Business Intelligence reporting based on data from the system. You can choose the report type and graphical display.
UniDocs Importer is a module that serves to automatically import scanned documents directly from network or flat bed scanners into the work area of the user to whom the document refers.
The UniDocs Importer module is primarily intended to speed up and facilitate the import of documents into the UniDocs application. The module works by automatically distributing documents placed in a predefined location to the user based on the name and extension of the document, following the settings. The application supports work with both network multifunction devices and document scanners. With network multifunction devices to which users log in using a PIN.
UniDocs IMPORTER allows sending scanned documents directly to the entry zone of the user who has logged in with a PIN. In this way, the scanning process itself is greatly accelerated, and the safety and security of confidential documents is raised to the highest possible level.
The C-Lite application has all the functionality of the standard Client application, except for the ability to change the contents of documents/folders and create a new document/folder.
This application can be used at any workplace where a user needs to view a document, authenticate it (or change some other attribute), forward it to the next user, or archive it. The C-Lite application retains the functionality of using reports and management functions.
The View application has the ability to receive and send documents (passive participation in the business process), search documents and folders, search archives and bulletin boards, and view a document/its header.
The View application is completely free and can be used on an unlimited number of computers.

The principle we were guided by when developing the UniDocs Client Mobile application was to simplify the existing functionalities of the desktop and web Client modules and adapt them to the character of devices with a "small" touch screen.
